UFC Style Portraits

UFC Style Portraits

My good friend Ryan Wilson posing for a UFC style lighting portrait. These feature one key light with harsh shadowing, with two kicker lights on the margins coming in hot. Great for sports portraits. This is the setup used for one of Anderson Silva's UFC portraits.

High Key - Headshot

High Key - Headshot

An example of a high key portrait image. Very soft beauty lighting, very soft shadows, and gorgeous skin tones and eye colors.

Great job Andrea!

With this wavy hair and gorgeous highlights, we decided to try and remake something reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit.

Award Ceremony Intro

Award Ceremony Intro

I was blessed with being able to photograph the Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence award ceremony in 2013. Here is Carla Beam giving an introductory speech before awarding recipient Richard Dauenhauer.

Richard Dauenhauer

Richard Dauenhauer

The great Richard Dauenhauer reading some of his poetry before being awarded the Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence. I am so grateful to have been able to photograph such a great person. Richard is known for many great things, including preserving and reviving Tlingit language for the world and Alaska Native people. He passed away in 2014 but his legacy lives on.

Push ups

Push ups

A recent fitness shoot I did - Here we decided to go for a classic pose in push-up position. A simple black background really helped put emphasis on the muscle tone, and a slightly harsh light just off camera right for a little bit of shadowing on the face. Definitely helps makes the veins pop as they wrap around the arms as well. Looking fit, Sterling!

Meditation

Meditation

Another shot from the fitness shoot with Sterling. Here we wanted a dramatic portrait but something that highlighted his physique. A meditation type pose was used to help relax the face and compliment the rigid physique. As well, a harsh light was used, raking across the body. This minimized face surface area, which encourages the viewer to focus not on the face as much. As well, it provided harsh shadows across individual muscles.

Cabin Life

Cabin Life

We decided to go to one of the most frequented spots in town, the old trappers cabin across the highway from the DMV area. I've never seen anyone do a photoshoot out here so I decided to use one of the more characteristic spots in Juneau. Here is Sterling catching some rays on one of the gorgeous, record breaking days in May.
